Traditional Acupuncture/ electroacupuncture

The ancient Chinese art of needling has been used for centuries to promote blood flow, reduce muscle tension, stimulate neural pathways and encourage healing. Electrical stimulation can be added if indicated for your pet’s condition. Dr. Shelley will assess your pet at the initial consult to determine if your pet will benefit from acupuncture. Don’t worry, most pets enjoy the treatment. Check out the link to the acupuncture page to learn more info about acupuncture in general.

Integrative pain management

KVRA will work closely with your pet’s regular veterinarian to come up with a comprehensive pain management plan that may include pharmaceuticals and/or supplements along with the therapies provided through KVRA. Integrative medicine involves the mix of traditional western medicine with one or more alternative or complementary therapies. KVRA offers physical medicine and/or modalities to complement and sometimes replace traditional pharmaceuticals.

Therapeutic Exercise/manual therapy (small animal only)

KVRA will show owners proper techniques to help improve their pet’s strength and mobility. Tailored exercise programs work around your pet’s injuries or conditions to improve overall functionality. These exercises may involve just your pet or objects/devices to increase intensity of the exercises to improve overall strength and function. More info available here.

Cold Laser Therapy

KVRA’s Class IV therapeutic laser provides effective treatment for a multitude of conditions ranging from superficial wounds to severe degenerative joint disease/osteoarthritis. This therapy uses light to stimulate cell activity and increases bloodflow to tissues that require healing and repair. This type of therapy often feels like a soothing warm heat that feels like a massage when used directly on skin. For a more detailed description on what cold laser therapy is and how it may be beneficial click here.

obesity management

With over 50% of dogs and cats being considered obese, KVRA can assist owners by providing nutritional guidance and a tailored exercise plan to help your pet shed those unwanted pounds. The benefit of having a tailored program helps to identify some common obstacles in your home that may make weight loss difficult for your pet to achieve.

assistive device guidance

From specialized harnesses to splints to wheelchairs, to prosthetics, KVRA offers guidance in ordering and fitting these devices. It can be overwhelming to think about when your pet needs a device to improve his overall quality of life. KVRA is here to help you through the process and find what works best for you and your pet. Some splints and/or prosthetics may require a tedious fitting process that KVRA can help you navigate to make sure your pet receives the appropriate device that fits well and is comfortable.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

The newest technology available at KVRA. Shockwave therapy uses acoustic sound waves to stimulate cell activity for healing, encourage the release of anti-inflammatory mediators, and provide pain relief. This therapy is especially helpful for tendon/ligament repair, as well as reaching deep structures that often cannot be adequately treated with laser therapy. For more information, click here.
